Salute to Youth

Viola Days

October 15, 2016

The Utah Viola Society and USU is bringing Patricia McCarty to Utah for Viola Days. She is the Director of Meadowmount. The emphasis is on repertoire for high schoolers prior to learning the big three (which for viola is Bartok, Hindemith and Walton). Ms. McCarty has specifically requested Bianca Quigley as Bianca studied with her all summer at Meadowmount playing the Golestan. The UVS Board is requesting Mackie Moore to play Praeludium and Allegro, Kreisler. The masterclass with Ms. McCarty is on Saturday, October 15th at the Dumke. Madison Marshall ateended the event and played as the Society is honoring her teacher, Dr. Dalton.

Utah Valley Symphony Young Artist Competition

October 19 & 20, 2016

Rachel Call auditioned with the Utah Valley Symphony Young Artist Competition and was selected to play in the Young Artists Concert on October 19-20.

MTNA Finals

January 7-8, 2017 | Southwest Regional Competition

McCall Andersen (Sr. Division) and Ellen Hayashi (Jr. Division) competed as division finalists of the Southwest Region in the MTNA Strings Competition in Honolulu, Hawaii. Both Ellen & McCall won 2nd place.


The winner of this competition will compete in the National Finals during the MTNA National Conference in Baltimore, Maryland in March. The three-tiered MTNA competitions begin at the state level. Winners of each State Competition advance to the division competition. Division winners then proceed to the National Competition Finals.

American Protege Piano & String Competition

December 18, 2016

Conservatory violinist Hannah Kwong is a winner of the American Protege Piano and String Competition. She is performing on Sunday, December 18, 2016 in the Winners' Recital at the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

Coeur d’Alene Symphony Young Artists Competition

January 7, 2017

Rachel Call competed in the final round of live auditions at Whitworth University. Rachel placed 3rd. Ages 14-18. Rachel was the youngest!

Winners of the Young Artist competition will have the opportunity to perform as soloist with the Coeur d’Alene Symphony. There are five categories: High School Instrumental, College Strings, College Piano, Colleges Winds/Percussion, and Vocals.
